Merrimack NH Area Information

Merrimack lies on the west side of the Merrimack River in eastern Hillsborough County. Just 11 miles north of Nashua NH, Merrimack is a community of approximately 27,000 residents who enjoy the nearby convenience of the second largest city in New Hampshire while living in a town that maintains an old country charm.

Outdoor activities in Merrimack include fishing, hiking, boating, golf, tennis, swimming and biking. Merrimack offers many stores and shops, cinemas, bowling - even indoor ice skating, and is home to the Anheuser-Busch brewery, where you can get a peek at the famous Clydesdale horses. Boston is only 50 miles away - the White Mountains are even closer. Quiet residential neighborhoods on tree-lined roads characterizes perfectly Merrimack's rural feel.

With many roads off the beaten path, the community is adorned with many historic homes, small farms and tranquil ponds. Residential housing ranges from single family homes to condominiums, townhouses and multi-family units.

Merrimack NH Villages

Merrimack has four distinct villages: Reeds Ferry is the northern most, Merrimack Village (formerly known as Souhegan Village) is farther south, then there's Thornton's Ferry; and finally there's South Merrimack, the busy area along Route 101 A. The Reeds Ferry and Thornton's Ferry districts acquired their names from ferries across the river between Merrimack and Litchfield. Souhegan village took its name from the Souhegan River, which empties into the Merrimack River.

Merrimack NH Schools

The Merrimack School District, SAU #26, includes three elementary schools, a middle school and a high school. Thornton's Ferry Elementary School, Reed's Ferry Elementary School and Mastricola Elementary School caters to grades one through five, including the recent addition of a kindergarten. The Merrimack Middle School maintains grades six through eight and Merrimack High School teaches students grades nine through twelve.
